It’s 3pm on a Friday. I want to go home! I wanted to tell my few readers that I’ll be transitioning into a new job within my company come January 1st, 2008. I am very excited. I hope we find a good replacement for my current position. I’ll be in charge of most of the training.

I’m looking forward to this weekend. I’ll be attending my parents’ anniversary dinner. They always invite the kids when they should be alone celebrating their marriage. I’m also going to Essex for their famous brunch for my good friend Stephanie. Tonight, I’ll be going to Ippudo for overpriced, but delicious ramen. I hope to get some tasty cupcakes from Sugar Sweet Sunshine on Sunday with my food fiend BFF.

I woke up at 8:30 am today. I went Spinning at 9:15am. It was a great workout. I met up with my friend and we got breakfast. I’ve been inside since then. I just don’t feel like doing anything. I don’t want to go to work tomorrow. I can’t believe it’ll be November soon. Where did 2008 go?

Last weekend, I decided it was time to exchange my crappy cable box for something that actually works. For awhile, I could only watch TV in black and white because the S-Video plug was busted on my cable box. Thanks to my genius boyfriend, he recommended I use the RCA cables to connect my cable box to my TV. Voila, I had color once again. However, I had a lot of problems watching HBO On Demand. I called useless Time Warner and they told me I either had to wait for a technician on a Saturday, or come into their store. Jeff and I headed to the Time Warner store on 23rd Street at around 4:45pm. I thought they would close at 5pm, so we took a taxi downtown. To my luck, there was a ton of traffic on 2nd Avenue. However, we ended up getting there at 5:02pm. The guy at the ticket dispenser asked, “Were you running?” I replied, “Yes, don’t you close at 5pm today?”. He said, “No, we close at 7pm. There were other people who thought we close at 5pm today too.” Anyway, Jeff kept mentioning DVR and how it has changed his life. Down in Florida, it’s only an extra $4 a month. When it was finally my turn, I asked my sales associate about DVR and she said it was an extra $10 a month! I was torn between getting it. Lately, I’ve been having trouble watching all my TV on Sunday (Mad Men, Brothers & Sisters, Army Wives and Entourage) and Monday (Heroes, Jon & Kate +8, Gossip Girl and How I Met Your Mother). I decided not to get DVR. However, when she came out with the same old busted black cable box, I’m like actually, I will get DVR. I got the new box and we went on our merry way. While we were on the 6 train, Jeff asked me about my remote. I said OH NO! Anyway, it turns out my remote doesn’t work.

To make a long story short, I rushed to the store on Monday and exchanged my old remote for a new huge remote. Now I’m in DVR heaven!

P.S. I had no idea my site was down for a few days. ASO was able to fix it in a matter of minutes. I love them!

I can’t believe it will be officially Fall tomorrow. Time is definitely flying by. I’ve been pretty good. Like everyone in the US, I’ve been following the financial markets and it doesn’t look pretty. Just last week, one of our company’s owners went bankrupt. Also, one of our other owners bought another so now we’re down to 9 “owners”. Supposedly everything is okay with our company, but people can’t help to be concerned. I’m not sure what else to talk about. Oh, I went to jury duty for the first time in my life just a couple of weeks ago. Unfortunately, I did not get picked for a trial. I was there for two days and I really enjoyed it. I got to sit around and catch up in my sleeping. When I did get picked (along with like 80 people) to a jury selection, I listened to all the other potential jurors’ answers to the questionnaire and didn’t do anything else. I’m exempt for 6 years, and then maybe I’ll get picked. I don’t know why people dread jury duty so much. I felt so important!

For all you NYCers, be sure to register to vote. I think the deadline is October 10th. Oh, I surprised my boyfriend with a Magic Bullet for his birthday. He LOVES it!

I got a note from my mail person saying that I have a package that needs to be signed for and it would be waiting for me at the post office. I was confused because I didn’t order anything at that time. I checked with my ever cunning boyfriend if he had ordered anything for me. He had told me earlier that he wasn’t getting me a birthday gift since he paid a small fortune for tickets to come see me in NY. I totally agreed with him about this because he already bought me a new iPod recently. He told me that he didn’t order anything for me. The next day, instead of going to work at 8am, I decided to go wait at the post office since it opens at 8am. I was first in the package pick-up line. I got a large box and I walked home. The box was much heavier then it looked. Then I realized that I’ve held a box much similar to this before. I ran (well walked) home and ripped open the box. Yup, it was a Wii! I was so excited. I checked the receipt and it was from my boyfriend, Jeff. I called him and told him that I received his gift!

When I was in Florida for 4th of July, Jeff and I visited our favorite Target and to my surprise, there was a Wii available. He was asking me what it was and I was confused because I’ve never seen a Wii in a store display. The customer next to me confirmed that it was an actual Wii console. I encouraged Jeff to get it because he has a pretty flat screen LCD TV and lots of space. After I left, Jeff went to the same Target and couldn’t find any Wiis. He told me that he visited multiple Targets and they were all unavailable. He ended up buying it on eBay!

I made sure we played a lot of Wii when he arrived for my pre-birthday weekend. Right now I only have the sports game, but it’s quite entertaining. Last weekend, I went to my good friend’s brother’s house for a baby shower. Turns out he just bought Rockband for his Xbox 360. And to my amazement, there is actual 4 instruments, not 3. I was a little nervous playing guitar since I wasn’t very good. By the end of the weekend, I was doing much better. I could even handle the faster songs. I didn’t even try the drums again. Last thing I need is another burst blister.

Now I really want Rockband for the Wii. I heard that it’s not as good as the Xbox 360 or Playstation 3 versions. I still want it! Too bad it costs so much for all the equipment. Maybe I’ll start saving money for it.

I love In-N-Out, I admit it. Last Friday, I came into work all excited because I was flying to LA. In my food obsessed world, this means I get to have In-N-Out for dinner. I also checked their hours since I wouldn’t be getting in until 10pm. They would be open until 1:30am. I told my co-workers about the cheeseburger waiting for me in LA. Then one of my co-worker decided to spread a lie. He told me that he heard that In-N-Out was opening in Long Island. I’m like are you sure? I then proceeded to check their website to see if they had any new locations. Of course there was nothing about opening their first restaurant in the East Coast. I then decided I send another e-mail to In-N-Out to find out the truth. By the time I landed in LA and was in my hotel in Pasadena (no I didn’t get my cheeseburger due to how late my flight came in), there was a reply waiting in my inbox. Here it is:

Dear Ms. Teresa XXXX:

Thank you for your e-mail. It’s always nice to hear from our customers, and we appreciate your interest.

Although we are unable to confirm plans for a site in New York at this time, we plan on expanding as far as we can, and particularly into areas in which our customers have expressed interest. As such, we are happy to let our Real Estate Department know that you are anxious to have an In-N-Out Burger® location in your area!

Thank you again for contacting us.

Sincerely,

Lisa Baggett
Customer Service Representative

So the “unable to confirm” could be a good sign. If you refer to my old entry about my first e-mail to In-N-Out, this could be promising. I am so excited!

In other good news, I’ll be in hot and sticky Tampa for July 4th weekend. I am so excited. I hope we get to go to the beach. I think I need some color. I can’t wait to see my baby!

[EDIT]: I just googled In-N-Out and Long Island and I found this sad blog. Apparently the one in Long Island is a fake. In-N-Out is suing them now for trademark and trade dress infringement. Here is the actual complaint. I read the complaint and it says that In-N-Out received e-mail from customers asking when the Long Island branch would be opening. I guess I wasn’t the only person who was excited about In-N-Out’s east coast debut.

The main reason I signed up for a checking account with HSBC is because they are the world’s local bank (so I thought). When I was setting up my account with my HSBC representative, I asked him if I could withdraw money while in Taiwan for free (no fees). He reassured me that this was the case. I went ahead and deposited my money and went on my merry way. Fastforward two years. In four days, I’ll be on a plane for my long-awaited vacation in Taiwan. Today, I decided to be proactive and call HSBC to let them know that I’ll be using my card overseas. I checked with my customer relationship specialist about if there are any fees and to my surprise, he told me that there is a 3% conversion fee. I got really annoyed because why would they charge me a fee if I’m using an HSBC bank in Taiwan? Isn’t it the same bank? He told me that HSBC USA is different than HSBC Taiwan. He said something (I was having trouble understanding his accent). Then after a few minutes of being on hold, he told me he’d be transferring me to someone in the International Banking department.

I told this new person that I just don’t understand why HSBC would mislead customers that they can use their HSBC debit card at any HSBC ATM world wide. How are they the “world’s local bank” if they are really separate entities? He said that the banks are separate, but fall under one bank. He then said that if I withdraw money in Taiwan, it costs THEM money to convert the money to NT. Anyway, I told him that he needs to tell his colleagues not to lie to clients. He said he’d escalate this to his managers to let them know. I know that he probably won’t be doing a damn thing, but whatever. I understand that banks just want to make money. If I decide to take money out of an HSBC ATM in Taiwan, I won’t be charge an ATM fee. I guess that’s good right?

I can’t wait for Taiwan.
