Summer 2010

I can’t believe it’s already July. I can’t believe my birthday is in 2 weeks! Eek. Where does the time go? Also, I’m so weirded out that my high school’s supposedly 10 year reunion was supposed to be this summer. Perhaps I didn’t get the invite? I still look like I’m 18, but I supposedly have 10 more years of knowledge. I definitely don’t feel accomplished with my current career/life. It scares me that I still have about 38 years of working before I can retire. How do people do this?

In geek news, I decided to purchase the iPhone 4. I am a slave to Apple. I’m not proud of it. When they first announced the new design, I was in love. I however was not qualified for the $299 upgrade so I’d have to fork over $499 if I wanted an “early” upgrade. To my luck, my good friend was willing to purchase my 3GS for $195 (friend discount). With this money, my early upgrade would be essentially the same price as the regular upgrade price. I decided that I would try to get the phone on June 29th at my local AT&T store. I confirmed with an employee that they would be selling the iPhone 4 on Tuesday starting at 7am. This employee warned me that people would be sleeping over night to wait for the phone. I set my alarm the night before for 4:30am. I ended up waking up by myself at 4am (maybe it was my excitement). I left the apartment around 4:45am to check out how long the line would be. I guess there wasn’t much marketing about the AT&T launch because I was #9 in line. Not bad! I also seemed to be an amateur with waiting in line at 5am. Most people in line had brought chairs, food, blankets, etc. All I had was my purse. I guess next time I wait for an iPhone I’ll be more prepared? The store opened a few minutes after 7am. By this time, there were at least 50 people behind me. They let us in groups. I was in the first group.

My sales person was an older man and I automatically assumed he would take a long time to ring me up. I was the last one to leave in my “group”. That’s okay because he was very polite even though he was slow. He tried to sell me accessories and the only thing I was interested in was the Speck Candyshell. I love this case because it’s both hard and soft. Because of this, it protects the phone very well from accidental drops. My sales person said they did not have them in stock, but he could order it for me. They only had two colors: black or purple. I picked purple since it would stand out more in my bag. He told me that they would ship it to my apartment. By Tuesday afternoon, I received and e-mail from AT&T letting me know it had shipped out via UPS 2nd Day Air. Wow, not bad for free shipping! I also got suckered into buying a mirrored screen protector. For all you iPhone owners, do NOT waste your money with the mirrored screen protector. When it’s really sunny outside, I can barely see my screen. Also, it’s pretty difficult to take pictures of things when all you see is your reflection. All in all, the iPhone 4 purchase went pretty smoothly. I have no complaints. I guess it’s good I wasn’t interested in the secretive white iPhone 4. I asked the AT&T employees when this phone would come out and one answered, “Is there even a white iPhone?” Haha.

Anyway, this was an early birthday gift to myself. I won’t be “shopping” until next week since I received all these birthday coupons from Banana Republic, DSW, Loehmann’s, Filene’s Basement, etc. So much temptation! I can’t resist a good deal.

My boyfriend, Jeff, will be returning from his deployment to Afghanistan in less than a week. I can’t believe it’s already been two months. I can’t wait to celebrate my birthday with him! )

Lazy Sunday

I woke up at 8:30 am today. I went Spinning at 9:15am. It was a great workout. I met up with my friend and we got breakfast. I’ve been inside since then. I just don’t feel like doing anything. I don’t want to go to work tomorrow. I can’t believe it’ll be November soon. Where did 2008 go?

Last weekend, I decided it was time to exchange my crappy cable box for something that actually works. For awhile, I could only watch TV in black and white because the S-Video plug was busted on my cable box. Thanks to my genius boyfriend, he recommended I use the RCA cables to connect my cable box to my TV. Voila, I had color once again. However, I had a lot of problems watching HBO On Demand. I called useless Time Warner and they told me I either had to wait for a technician on a Saturday, or come into their store. Jeff and I headed to the Time Warner store on 23rd Street at around 4:45pm. I thought they would close at 5pm, so we took a taxi downtown. To my luck, there was a ton of traffic on 2nd Avenue. However, we ended up getting there at 5:02pm. The guy at the ticket dispenser asked, “Were you running?” I replied, “Yes, don’t you close at 5pm today?”. He said, “No, we close at 7pm. There were other people who thought we close at 5pm today too.” Anyway, Jeff kept mentioning DVR and how it has changed his life. Down in Florida, it’s only an extra $4 a month. When it was finally my turn, I asked my sales associate about DVR and she said it was an extra $10 a month! I was torn between getting it. Lately, I’ve been having trouble watching all my TV on Sunday (Mad Men, Brothers & Sisters, Army Wives and Entourage) and Monday (Heroes, Jon & Kate +8, Gossip Girl and How I Met Your Mother). I decided not to get DVR. However, when she came out with the same old busted black cable box, I’m like actually, I will get DVR. I got the new box and we went on our merry way. While we were on the 6 train, Jeff asked me about my remote. I said OH NO! Anyway, it turns out my remote doesn’t work.

To make a long story short, I rushed to the store on Monday and exchanged my old remote for a new huge remote. Now I’m in DVR heaven!

P.S. I had no idea my site was down for a few days. ASO was able to fix it in a matter of minutes. I love them!

My love for video games

I got a note from my mail person saying that I have a package that needs to be signed for and it would be waiting for me at the post office. I was confused because I didn’t order anything at that time. I checked with my ever cunning boyfriend if he had ordered anything for me. He had told me earlier that he wasn’t getting me a birthday gift since he paid a small fortune for tickets to come see me in NY. I totally agreed with him about this because he already bought me a new iPod recently. He told me that he didn’t order anything for me. The next day, instead of going to work at 8am, I decided to go wait at the post office since it opens at 8am. I was first in the package pick-up line. I got a large box and I walked home. The box was much heavier then it looked. Then I realized that I’ve held a box much similar to this before. I ran (well walked) home and ripped open the box. Yup, it was a Wii! I was so excited. I checked the receipt and it was from my boyfriend, Jeff. I called him and told him that I received his gift!

When I was in Florida for 4th of July, Jeff and I visited our favorite Target and to my surprise, there was a Wii available. He was asking me what it was and I was confused because I’ve never seen a Wii in a store display. The customer next to me confirmed that it was an actual Wii console. I encouraged Jeff to get it because he has a pretty flat screen LCD TV and lots of space. After I left, Jeff went to the same Target and couldn’t find any Wiis. He told me that he visited multiple Targets and they were all unavailable. He ended up buying it on eBay!

I made sure we played a lot of Wii when he arrived for my pre-birthday weekend. Right now I only have the sports game, but it’s quite entertaining. Last weekend, I went to my good friend’s brother’s house for a baby shower. Turns out he just bought Rockband for his Xbox 360. And to my amazement, there is actual 4 instruments, not 3. I was a little nervous playing guitar since I wasn’t very good. By the end of the weekend, I was doing much better. I could even handle the faster songs. I didn’t even try the drums again. Last thing I need is another burst blister.

Now I really want Rockband for the Wii. I heard that it’s not as good as the Xbox 360 or Playstation 3 versions. I still want it! Too bad it costs so much for all the equipment. Maybe I’ll start saving money for it.
