Lesson Learned #1298475

You all know about my first check-up in years? Well it turns out that since my doctor used Quest Diagnostics for my labs, I will have to pay for it in full. UnitedHealthcare only uses LabCorp. I just think it’s silly that my network doctor didn’t bother to use a network laboratory. I am pretty sure this will never happen to me again. It’s ironic that this will cost me exactly the same amount I paid for my first pair of Uggs. I knew I shouldn’t have bought them! I also feel guilty for recommending my doctor to my co-worker. I’m pretty sure she will have to pay for her labs out of pocket as well! Next week I’ll be going to the optometrist. I hope it doesn’t cost me too much for my special gas permeable contacts.

Grr. It sucks being an adult sometimes. Also, Christmas is JUST around the corner. I’m going to be soo broke.

  1. Do not just pay… you need to contact UHC and fight this. Depending on how far you take it, or how many times you call they will do something.

  2. I just called UHC and they said there is nothing they can do. Apparently, I was supposed to check to see what labs UHC uses in advance. Also, the lady said that they sent many notices to network doctors to let them know they can only send labs to LabCorp. I did my research and there is a LabCorp in my doctor’s medical building. I called the doctor to let him know that in the future, he should send UHC patients’ labs to LabCorp. Otherwise they will be responsible for paying it in full.

I guess I can call UHC tomorrow?
