A whole new view

I recently had my first eye check-up in three years. I was nervous about it, but I decided it was time to go since I was paying for vision insurance and the year was almost up. Luckily, the closest in network eye doctor was across the street from my office. I went in last Tuesday. I got a very thorough exam. Dr. Hung checked my retina and everything. Then she asked me why I had hard contacts. I said I am not sure, but my eye doctor put me on them from the start. I said that maybe it’s because I have astigmatism. I used to think it was two words – a stigmatism. Anyway, she said that it might be because back then (over 10 years ago), soft contacts were not that breathable and that’s probably why he put me in hard contacts. I then mentioned maybe it’s because my eyes are so small? She said that many Asians use soft contacts. This is true because I went to Taiwan a year ago and I didn’t bring my solution because security made me dump it. I could NOT find my hard contact solution at any pharmacy. My friend had to take me to optical stores (many of them still didn’t carry it). There were tons of soft contact solutions though. I went in for my contact fitting yesterday. My doctor checked to see if everything looked good. Then she said I had to schedule a contact lenses training with a lady in the office. So I went ahead and scheduled it for today. I went in at lunch really nervous. Soft contacts are so different. You can barely feel them on your fingers. She said I’d be able to go after showing her that I can put them in my eyes and remove them by myself. It took me 20 minutes, but I did it! All I know is I will have to wake up earlier to put in these contacts. It’s not my fault my eyes blink all the time. I wore the contacts for the rest of the day and they were really comfortable. They are as comfortable as my hard contacts. I remember when I first got hard contacts, they felt so foreign in my eye. At one point during a state test, my contact moved and ended up cutting my eye. Ouch.

I asked the lady what type if contacts I have and she said I had the Focus Night & Day monthly contacts. When I went back to work I googled it and they are the ones you can wear for thirty days straight! How cool is that? I would never do that, but it’s nice to know I can sleep in them without worrying. Do any of you soft contact wearers order your contacts online? What is the best website? I was looking at Vision Direct. They seem to be cheaper than 1-800Contacts. Or should I just order through my optical store?

I better get to bed. ) I’m going to Florida tomorrow. I can’t wait to feel the warm sun on my skin.

Lesson Learned #1298475

You all know about my first check-up in years? Well it turns out that since my doctor used Quest Diagnostics for my labs, I will have to pay for it in full. UnitedHealthcare only uses LabCorp. I just think it’s silly that my network doctor didn’t bother to use a network laboratory. I am pretty sure this will never happen to me again. It’s ironic that this will cost me exactly the same amount I paid for my first pair of Uggs. I knew I shouldn’t have bought them! I also feel guilty for recommending my doctor to my co-worker. I’m pretty sure she will have to pay for her labs out of pocket as well! Next week I’ll be going to the optometrist. I hope it doesn’t cost me too much for my special gas permeable contacts.

Grr. It sucks being an adult sometimes. Also, Christmas is JUST around the corner. I’m going to be soo broke.

My health

I am pretty sure everyone has been sitting on the edge of their seats waiting for my blood results. So this is what happened. On Monday, I still hadn’t heard from my doctor. I called around 4:30pm. The receptionist said the doctor would call me with the information. I said he could leave me a message since I’ll be in the subway, unless of course it’s “bad” news. I went straight to the gym and did my cardio. I love leaving work at 5pm now. This means I beat the “rush” at the gym. I didn’t even have to wait in line to use an elliptical. Usually I have to wait a few minutes for a free one when I leave work at 5:30pm. I was back in my apartment by 6:20 pm. I get a call from the doctor at 6:43pm. He tells me that I’m “perfectly normal”. Since I’m paranoid I asked if there was anything that I should be watching out for? Then I asked if I could have a copy of my results? He said he could fax them to me or I could pick it up. I then asked what time they close. He said 7pm. I said this was perfect that I’d come by right now. I ran over there in my sweaty gym clothes. He had my copied results ready. Perfect!

I read my results to my mom. She was happy. I bet a little jealous! So my cholesterol is 176. I still think it’s kind of high, but I guess it’s not too bad considering my family’s history.

I had my dental check-up today. I’d love to say everything was good, but I guess I’m not that lucky! I have three small cavities. As usual, the dentist asked me if I was flossing. Was he waiting for me to say, “No, I never floss anymore. I like to leave gunk in my weak enamel teeth.” Oh well. Also, he said that he didn’t like the crown on my root canal. It may have to be replaced. With insurance it could be up to $490! I better start saving up for that!

Jeff told me that I should be happy that I have insurance to help pay for these things. Oh I am grateful! Otherwise I’d be literally broke or I’d be without teeth!

I’m going to go read my Shape magazine.

P.S. DHL is on my blacklist with FedEx. I had them update the address of a package yesterday. I confirmed with TWO different customer service representatives. This morning, I get a call from the delivery guy and he is at the OLD address. I tell him that I called the day before about the new address and he said he saw no note of this address. He said since the new address isn’t in his delivery zone, it’ll have to be delivered TOMORROW. Ugh. This is crazy because this package was shipped out of Manhattan on Monday. I could have delivered it faster!

I’ve graduated to…

8 lb weights for my total body conditioning class. Just a month and a half ago I was using 3 lb weights. Soon, I’ll have “guns” you can see. Just you wait…

Oh yeah, I graduated to the 12 lb Body Bar. I feel accomplished.

Now I will try to make snow peas with shrimp. I am pretty sure it won’t taste half as good as how my mom makes it. Oh well!

Yesterday, I had the most wonderful first massage at Exhale Spa. I think I will start saving up to have my 2nd ever massage in a couple of months. The prices are outrageous, but it feels so good. My company paid for the massage. It was a great gift.
