Resolve

Well, I couldn’t take sharing my tiny one bedroom apartment with a roommate and many little mice. I called our management company on Monday during my lunch. As expected, “Nadia” was at lunch. I left my number, apt #, issue, etc with the receptionist and she said Nadia would call me back. I decided to call back around 3pm because I hadn’t heard back (surprise!) I was put on hold and the receptionist kept saying that Nadia is still on the phone and if I’d like to leave a message (I said NO). About five minutes later, she comes back on line and says she isn’t sure when Nadia would be off the phone. I said fine, and I left a very concerned voicemail. I basically said that I’m tired of everyone thinking my roommate and I are leaving our front door open and inviting the mice to play in our kitchen of sticky traps. I also mentioned that we caught 4 mice in the last week alone and that this has been going on for over a year. I KNOW there is a hole in the kitchen. I hung up and then called the super.

(I will say that my super in this building is wonderful. Him and his wife are always very helpful. When we our fridge didn’t keep anything cool, they had guys come in and fix it the next day. When my air conditioner didn’t keep my room cool, they had guys come in and replace it. When our top lock didn’t quite work, Cerem (super) came in to install a new one for a small fee. It was great! Oh yes, during my first week in this building, I managed to lock myself out of my apartment while doing laundry. Cerem was kind enough to lend me his master key so I could get back into my apartment on a Friday night. I didn’t even have a cell phone!)

Anyhow, I called Cerem after I leaving my message wtih Nadia and I got his wife Cedia. I explained to her that I left another message with Nadia and that I just can’t live with mice. She said Cerem would call me when he got back. During this call, Nadia was calling me. I hung up with Cedia and spoke with Nadia. She said that she was sending people over tomorrow to look for holes in my apartment. I asked if the super was doing this (he’s not a professional) and she said no. I was relieved. After this call, Cerem called me and said that basically he already checked for holes and that there are no holes in my kitchen for mice to get in. Well okay, how are they coming in then GENIUS?

Today, two men knocked on my door at around 8:15 am. They had all this equipment. I moved everything out of my kitchen and they basically ripped out all the counters/sink. They found a hole around a pipe near the sink. Apparently the mice had eaten their way through the sheet rock. Then they pulled out the dishwasher (we NEVER use it). They hit the jackpot. There was a horizontal hole from one end of the dishwasher to the kitchen sink! It was less than half an inch big, but mice can get through the tiniest cracks! There was a ton of mouse poo all over the place, so it was quite obvious how the mice got into our kitchen. The guy told me they’d fill the holes up very well and put wood molding (it holds up better than sheet rock). He also suggested I take photos for evidence. I did.

Fast forward eight hours later, I come home to find a clean kitchen with no traps. They cleaned everything up very well. I was very impressed. I did Clorox the counters and the floors just in case. There was a LOT of mouse poo. I think I may even call Nadia back at the management company to say thank you. I am thinking about placing a couple of traps tonight just to make sure we don’t have some mice running around the kitchen still.
