Another FRIDAY!!
Oct 27th
I went to the dentist for the first time in two years. I think I have dental anxiety. I get all worked up when I go to the dentist. This is because of my traumatizing experience a few years ago. Basically, I was told I had 17 cavities and a root canal from this new dentist. He grilled me on whether all I drink is soda or just ate too much candy. I do neither!
Anyway, I told the hygienist that I had a slight fear of dentists, and then she started to pick at my teeth. It was so terrible. She knew I was freaking out so she tried to make some jokes. Then she’s like, “I think you need a break. Go rinse your mouth.” I then asked what was in this blue liquid and she said “Liquor.” I then replied with, “I WISH!!” After what felt like an eternity, it was over. Then she cleaned my teeth. Finally, I got to meet the “hot” dentist my co-worker told me about. He looked at my many x-rays and said that I am okay for now and that I should come back in 6 months! WOW no cavities with a REAL dentist? How amazing!
After this long appointment, I went home and prepared to go to my favorite Chinatown restaurant, “New Yeah Shanghai Deluxe”. MM MM!
Happy Friday!
Shoes
Oct 22nd
I bought three pairs of shoes this weekend. Two were sneakers.
I’m most proud of this purchase:

Can you guess what brand that is?
Here were my other purchases:

I only paid $35 for these!

Now I want an iPod nano so I can record how many calories I burn!
GOOD NIGHT!
Leaving on a jet plane
Oct 14th
My vacation will be over shortly. I’ll be heading to the airport in two hours. It’s crazy how two weeks have flown by!
I’m still not happy with my fobcut.
Pictures can be found here. I will upload the rest tomorrow!
Only in Taipei…
Oct 10th
Would a stranger come up to you when you are tearing due to some dust in your contact and offer eye drops. Since I’m from NYC (the city where no one trusts anyone), I quickly said no thanks and continued to wipe my eye with my tissue. Is it weird that I got freaked about this? Who knows what was in that bottle!
I really think I’ve gained like 10 lbs since I’ve landed in Taipei. Oh yeah, I got a new hair style. I’m not very happy with it (it’s REALLY different). There’s nothing I can do about it now. I’m in a rut. I feel that my vacation is ending too quickly and I don’t want to go back home and back to work! So here I am at my grandma’s apartment updating my website. I guess I will head out and have this famous beef noodle soup near by. Then I’ll head to a big department store so I can enjoy the wonderful A/C.
Toodles!
Day 2 & 3
Oct 5th
I’m sorry for not updating sooner, but here is another update!
Wednesday
I woke up early to watch the Yankees game. Then my two aunts and uncle came to visit. My oldest aunt really likes to chat. I gave them their Move Free bottles and then we headed out to Core Pacific Living Mall (京è¯æˆ) for lunch. The younger aunt was really craving steak, but my older aunt said that I could get that in America (which is actually very true). We ended up at the food court at 11am. I ordered 麻油雞麵. It was pretty good. They were airing the Yankees game for students. I can’t believe just how crazy people are about 王建民.
Anyway, I came back and walked around the food market near my grandma’s apartment. I took a bunch of pictures (just like a tourist). I bought 豬肉干,蓮霧 and 鳳梨. They were so tasty! I will be posting the pictures shortly. Then I had dinner with my family friends at Jimmy’s Kitchen, which is Taipei’s oldest steakhouse. The prices were pretty steep. Each steak was at least $30 US. I was disappointed with my steak because it ended up being very fatty. I couldn’t even finish it because I thought I’d pass out at the table with a heart attack. I didn’t say anything about the food until my friends mentioned that it wasn’t that good for the price we’re paying.
Thursday
I woke up around 8am to watch the Yankees game, but it was postponed due to the weather. I went and bought some delicious breakfast. I bought scallion pancakes (悤油餅) and 燒餅蛋å. It was delicious! I still have some leftovers in the fridge. After resting from my big breakfast, I decided to venture out to Taipei 101 Mall. I went to yet another Mango store. I ended up buying really cheap jeans for $35 and two shirts. It was excellent! I can’t believe their jeans are cheaper than their shirts. It’s pretty weird how they price things there. After shopping, I had my ramen lunch at 101’s famous food court in the basement. There were so many restaurants to choose from, but the ramen looked really good so I ordered it. It was great! I stopped by Page One (this HUGE bookstore) and I read a Taipei travel guide to see if there was anything I missing. I debated about purchasing it, but I decided it wasn’t worth $30.
I left Taipei 101 and took the free shuttle back to the Taipei City Hall MRT station. I took the blue line to Taipei Main Station and then transferred to the red line. I took it to the Shihlin station. There I caught the 304 bus and got off at the last stop, National Palace Museum . I bought a student ticket for NT $50 ($1.51). I joined the 3pm English tour. It was pretty cool. We got to wear headsets. Last time my family went in 2004, we followed the English tour, but this time I was actually part of it. There was only like six people. I learned a lot about jade, bronze and porcelain. It’s pretty amazing what the Chinese people were making over 6,000 years ago! They were so advanced. I left the museum at around 4:45 pm. Then I headed back home. I was lucky enough to be traveling during rush hour. It took awhile to get home on the bus, but it was okay!
I waited for my uncle to come home and then we went to have shabu shabu. Do you guys know the difference between shabu shabu and hotpot? I just found out the difference recently! Shabu shabu is individual pots and hotpot is just one big pot. Dinner was really good and it only cost NT 180 per person. Not too shabby!
Well, now I am heading out with my aunt and uncle to meet my mom’s friend for lunch. We are going to Din Tai Fung to eat juicy dumplings! I’m excited. ïŠ
Okay I have to get ready!
P.S. Happy Birthday,Mom! Today is Mooncake Festival!
Day 1 Report
Oct 3rd
Hi everyone! It’s really 8:30 am 10/4/06, but I think wordpress still thinks I’m in NY. Anyway, yesterday was a relaxing day. I had some delicious å“¨å…µæ²¹æ¢ and 飯團. For lunch, which I had 2 hours after my “breakfast” we went to 兄弟飯店. We had dim sum. Then my friend and I went exploring for hard contacts solution. No one in Taipei uses hard contacts and they don’t even sell the solution at Watson’s or any pharmacy store. We went to like four optical stores before we found a place that actually sold it. I also checked out Mango at Breeze Center. It’s funny that the largest size of a coat I was trying on was a US small! Lucky for me it was my size, but I didn’t really like it. I bought cute faceplate for my phone. It’s a light blue color. We had some cold tea drinks for snack. I then had dinner with my uncle at the alley around the corner. I took him to my favorite noodle place where the owners always remember me. I’m the American! She said “I haven’t seen you in a long time!” Then she told my uncle that she remembers me because my grandma took me there. Our noodles were less than $3 total. It was fantastic. We also ordered 空心èœ. The vegetables were so tasty and much better than what I can get for NY for like 4 times the price. In total, our meal of two noodles and a vegetable cost $NT 150 (which is equivalent to a whopping $4.54. Also, in Taiwan, it’s not customary to tip at these little stalls/restaurants. I LOVE IT!
Now I am up early drinking guava juice and eating tea eggs (茶葉蛋) from 7-11. I’m watching 王建民 and he just put on two Detroit Tigers on to base with 0 out. This is pretty bad considering it’s only the 2nd inning! Ahh!
GO YANKEES!
Hello from Taipei, Taiwan!
Oct 3rd
ä½ å¥½ï¼ æˆ‘æ„›è‡ºåŒ—!
I’m not sure if anyone can read that, but it says, “Hello! I love Taipei!” After a grueling 16 hour flight, I am here in wonderful Taipei. It’s so AWESOME to be on vacation. So, JFK airport told me I couldn’t bring my contact solution because it was 4oz and not 3oz. I spent all afternoon in Taipei looking for gas permeable contact solution. Basically everyone here uses soft! That’s how it is in the U.S., but they still sell the contact solution at pharmacy stores. We went to like three different optical stores before we were able to find it. It was actually cheaper here than in NY! Figures.
Anyway, just thought I’d give you guys an update.
