Moving finally

It’s been confirmed. I will be moving on May 31, 2006 after 9am. Everyone can breathe again.

I’m sure something bad will happen before then. I have the worst luck ever.

Happy Memorial Day!! D

A great childhood toy

I was listening to some music and I heard this computerized voice. It reminded me of the spelling game I used to play. I searched on Google to see if it could find the old toy I used to play. Three seconds later, I learned that it was the “Speak & Spell” by Texas Instruments. It was so fun to play. I would like to believe this is a big reason why I am such a great speller now.

Go play Speak & Spell online. It will bring back a lot of good memories. I’m pretty sure a lot of you won’t remember this because you are either too young or too old. Suckers!! )

10 Things that need to happen by June 1st

  1. I need to get a raise at work.
  2. I need to move into my new apartment.
  3. I need to be all packed and ready for the big move.
  4. I need to get my security deposit back for this garbage dump apartment. (If you’ve seen my current apartment, you would have to agree.)
  5. Empty out the three active fridges.
  6. Sign up for mail forwarding.
  7. Update billing address on all credit cards.
  8. Sell my closet and a/c.
  9. Buy new things for the NEW great apartment.
  10. Finish my book.

So I had a horrible night today. It ended with me calling my current management company and explaining to “Monika” that I should not be responsible for showing my apartment to prospective tenants. I do not feel safe opening the door for anyone who says they are here to “see the apartment”. After being harrassed by little Asian girls from 7:30 pm to 9:30 pm, I will be avoiding my apartment from 6-8 pm because Monika says that is when the broker/super will be showing the apartment. Also, she mentioned they do indeed have a copy of my keys (the guy from yesterday claims I never gave them a copy) and therefore am not responsible to open the door for anyone. She apologized profusely. Let’s hope I will be moving out soon so I don’t need to deal with anymore of this crap! I’ve shown my apartment to countless brokers and tenants. All these times, I was not informed in advance that they would be showing up and also no one has used the keys since the first broker.

For those who want to see my current apartment, have a good laugh here. I can’t decide which picture I like the most: the one with the big garbage bag on the floor or the one with the huge closet taking up the whole room. o ops:I’ve never considered my apartment to be MTV Real World style. What have I been missing?! shock

Well, the Yankees won tonight. I totally did not expect it. I’m glad to see that the Yankees could keep a 7-1 lead. I’m also happy that Mo did not blow the save. )

Buyer beware

Okay, so it’s been a crazy weekend. It all started when I decided to purchase a used TV on Craigslist. I first contacted a guy who was selling a Sony WEGA. We agreed that I would meet him at his place to see it at 9 pm on Saturday. The only problem is that he was in the middle of the West Village (party central). Anyhow, my future roomie and I were waiting at home around 7 pm on Friday and we decided to look at TVs on Craigslist again. A girl had just posted a Toshiba 24″ TV for $100. She was even in the Upper Eastside (my hood). So we e-mailed her and left our number. She called us and we ended up going to her walkup apartment. She was on the 5th floor! It was pretty insane. My friend was a superstar and carried the TV downstairs all by herself. I’m pretty weak and pathetic, so I guess I’d probably just make it more dangerous if I helped.

On Saturday, my current roomies moved out to their new apartment in the financial district. Once they cleared out the living room, I tried to hook up my TV with the cable. I then realized that there was no coaxial plug for me to put my coaxial cable into. I was so upset because I thought I had bought a broken TV. My friend Jeff told me to get some RCA plugs and a S-Video cable and hook up the system. I went to the local hardware store and bought them. I plugged everything together and still nothing. All I saw was grayness. I was then told to switch it to “Video 1″. I said that I did not have a remote. I didn’t want to go and buy another thing and find out that the TV was really busted. I then called the girl who I purchased it from and she did not pickup her cell. She had said that if it didn’t work, I could get my money back (it wasn’t a contract, but hey it was her word!) I began to get more and more upset.

I ended up watching “Match Point” on my laptop last night because I was so sad. I even did some packing. I’m trying to sell my armoire and a/c since my new apt will have closets and a/c! This morning I decided I’d swing by Circuit City or Best Buy after the gym to get a universal remote with a “video” button. I checked online and Best Buy only has RCA remotes. I decided I’d get a Sony remote because hey they’re a better brand right? Also, my friend told me that I could return the remote if it doesn’t work, even if I opened the packaging. I had no idea about this! I thought once you open something, you couldn’t return it. I ended up buying a low end Sony universal remote at Circuit City. I came home and attempted to program it. The first code worked! Amazing. I then pressed the “Video” button and the impossible happened. I SAW PICTURE! All is good now. Thanks for everyone who helped me!

My TV looks pretty much like that!

So do you want to know the reason why I bought a TV before I’m moving out to my new apartment? Why couldn’t I live without a TV for a week? Well, it’s because of Grey’s Anatomy double episode season finale! It’s tonight and I’ll be ready! I love it.

Life is good. Tomorrow I’ll be going to see the Yankees game with my family. It’s going to be fun even though my love, Matsui, won’t be in left field. Work’s been crazy lately. My co-worker went on vacation and left me to fend the fort. I think my boss finally realizes just how swamped I get. I actually had to e-mail everyone on Thursday saying that I could not setup anymore firms for Monday roll-out. I think the highlight of my day was when a client e-mailed my boss (I was cc’d on it) and informed him how helpful I’ve been on Friday and that I’m a great asset to our company. That made me feel so great. It’s funny how the littlest thing can make everything I do worth it.

Most importantly, I want to wish my mom a great Mother’s Day! Thanks for being such a great mom. It’s great to know that I can come home any day and my mom will be there for me. Thank you!

Breathing easier–the horrible apartment search

Apartment pictures!

I’m one step closer in moving into my new apartment. So, if you’ve been reading my site, you are aware that I’ve been in search of a new apartment. Why? Well I’ve realized my current building sucks and even more importantly is that the management company is irresponsible. Another reason for my desire to move is that my current location isn’t very convenient. It takes me forever to get to the subway station.

We (roomie and I) applied for an apartment at the beginning of April for a convertible two bedroom apartment at 91st street. We were excited that our search was over by using what we thought was a great service at the time, Rent Direct. We eagerly submitted our application with hopes to find out if we were getting this apartment in the next week. Four weeks later, the landlord was still on “vacation” for Passover. At this point we were frustrated because everyone at the management company was giving us the run around. During the last week of April, we decided it was time to give up with this apartment and look for a new one. I have learned that it is pretty much impossible to find a no fee apartment in New York City. As much as we all hate brokers, if you really want to find a good apartment, you must be willing to pay that fee to get it. Most importantly, do NOT ever sign up for any no fee services such as Rent Direct and Innovative Apartments. They are just out to scam you out of $200 and still make you find an apartment with a broker.

Two weeks ago I went on an apartment spree and saw about 10 apartments in a week. I found one at 91st street and I was ecstatic. I came to the meeting prepared and filled out an application immediately. The “broker” seemed pretty nice and he even filled out a receipt for my credit check fee that I paid in cash. He reassured me that this was a June 1st move in and that he’d be in touch with me since the whole application process should only take 4-5 business days.

The next day, I receive a call from him telling me that the apartment is actually for July 1st. I was like WHAT?? He was very apologetic and said that the current tenants could not find an apartment and therefore were staying another month. I was very upset so I asked if he could find any other apartments available for June 1st. He said he would try (at this point I doubt I’d hear from him ever again). About an hour later he called me with some good news. There was an apartment available at 86th street. I said that my roommate would be there after 4 pm. She met with him and said we’d take it. After work, I ran to meet them and agreed that the apartment would be perfect. He put our application in for this apartment instead. I did not hear back from him until the next week! He asked if I wanted to see the actual apartment. He had shown us an empty apartment that is identical to the real one. I definitely wanted to see if the apartment was indeed identical. I met with him after work. The super’s wife took us to the apartment. I started taking pictures of the apartment. She was a bit confused why I was taking pictures. Ron (broker) told her that we (my roomie and I) would be taking this apartment. She complimented me on my digital camera and started to ask me about Canons. I am a HUGE fan of them so I told her to definitely get a Canon. She said she was getting a cheaper model than mine. Anyhow, I think this is how I got “in” with the super’s wife.

On the way down to the lobby, she told Ron that she would not be showing this apartment to anyone else since I was taking it. At that point I actually started to believe that we might actually get this apartment! When I left the building, the broker gave me a document outlining what things I needed to bring to the lease signing!

A few days later, I did not hear from him. I told my future roomie that I’d be calling him on Monday to see what the deal was. To my surprise he called me on Sunday to setup an appointment. We agreed to meet on Tuesday at 5pm to do the signing. I was so excited. I had all my documents ready and my cashier’s checks. Great!

On Tuesday, I go into work early so I can leave early for the lease signing. I get a call from my roomie that Ron called to reschedule the signing for 3 pm! I was shocked because I didn’t get a call from him. Anyway, turns out that the leasing lady had an emergency and had to go home early. We rescheduled for Wednesday at 1pm.

Today, I go to work hoping that our apartment search was indeed over. I did my work as usual. Then Ron called and asked me what was wrong. I’m like well I just want to know if we’re actually meeting today. He said yes, I confirmed with the leasing company. I was excited. I arrived at the office about 10 minutes early. My roomie was already there. We “initialed” a bunch of documents and signed our names everywhere. It was so great. Then the best part was when the lady, Michelle, gave us our Welcome packets! Now we just have to get our guarantor to sign, notarize and send it back. Good times!

Cutest ball of fur

Cute puppy

Why are puppies so adorable? It almost makes me want to go buy one. Too bad I don’t feel comfortable picking up poo and cleaning up “accidents”. I just like playing with them!

I’m pretty upset that I have not been able to watch Veronica Mars for the last three weeks during its TV spot. Why you may ask? Well the NJ Nets have been playing in the playoffs. This week UPN didn’t even think about airing Veronica Mars on Wednesday. I had to use my own means to watch the crazy episode. I can’t believe it’s the season finale next week. I hope this show gets picked up next year!
