House of Flying Daggers

I just would like to say that I’m not the only person in the world who thought House of Flying Daggers was a big let down. I wrote a “bad” review on NYTimes.com. I don’t know why this movie keeps getting praised for being so beautiful and perfect. Did everyone forget the original true masterpiece?

Dear Mr. Zhang Yimou:

Please stop making these Chinese martial arts movies with a romantic storyline. It’s been done before successfully, and you’ll never be able to achieve the same great result. Also, please stop using Zhang Ziyi in all your movies. She might be pretty to look at, but she’s starting to be typecasted for these fighting movies. Lastly, please stop wanting to be Ang Lee. Thank you.

Sincerely,

Teresa

P.S. The only reason I sat through the entire movie was because of Takashi Kaneshiro. At least you found an appealing guy for the female audience. Now for your next movie, try to think of a creative storyline that hasn’t been used before.

  1. I haven’t seen House yet which is disturbing because of my chinese-ness, but i had a feeling it wouldn’t be that good. it just looked corny. i didn’t really like Crouching either because i thought the whole flying around thing was kinda dumb. not a bad ‘movie’ though.

what really irks me though is the whole Hero hoopla. first of all suck it all you stupid quentin tarantino fanatics. he’s not god and he had nothing to do with Hero. second, hero was boring no matter how much jet li kicks ass.

  2. Nina, just remember that everyone else thinks this movie is awesome, so I hope your boyfriend and you still watch the movie. I don’t want my thoughts of the movie to prevent you from enjoying it!

Jing, oh you’ll definitely not enjoy this movie if you didn’t like Croucching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. It has the same fighting stuff. D

  3. Ok, so, house of flying daggers might not be for everyone, but personally I loved it! It was one of the few movies that has actually had an effect on me. I thought it was one of the most beautiful films I have ever seen, and even if you didn’t like it, you’ve got to appreciate the amount of work that has gone into it.
