Summer fun

Wow, I just realized that I’ll be back in the States in less than a week. I will definitely miss the Taipei’s delicious food. Tonight, I’m going to eat some yummy dim sum. Yay!

Yesterday, I went to get a magic perm. It took about 4 hours. I had no idea what this process entails, so after a hair stylist washed the chemicals out of my hair and then blew dry it, I thought that was it. I was disappointed that my hair wasn’t straight. I didn’t know that it would be another 2-3 hours before my perm was complete. Two people straightened every strand of hair on my head for about an hour. That took the longest time. After that, my hair was washed/conditioned and then it was dried again. At this point, my hair was very straight. Then the main hair stylist cut my hair again, and I was good to go. She told me that I couldn’t wash my hair for 2 days, and I have to leave my hair down for a week. Ahh! This whole hair process only cost $2700 NT (< $90 american). It costs about $400 in America. I'm so glad I got it done here. :)

Today I went bowling. I was so close in breaking 100, but it wasn't meant to be. Before we went bowling, we went to see the Bodyworlds exhibition at the science museum in Shilin. It was kind of interesting. There was one part that I found to be really disturbing. They had a special section of dead human fetuses. It was quite sad. I don’t think the US would ever welcome such an exhibition, but who knows!

Online gaming is crazy

Today, my younger sister and I arrived at the Internet cafe at 2:45 pm. We did not sit down at a computer until 4 pm. Why did it take us so long to finally use a computer? Well, it’s because of all the people who only play Counterstrike and other online games like that. For $110 NT ($3 American about), one can use a computer for 5 hours. You can also use computer for 8 and 12 hours at a time. How crazy is that? This place must be making tons of money. They also serve food and drinks to these gaming addicts. What confuses me is why these kids don’t play their games at home. One person told me that the connection here is much faster. My cable modem at home is very fast. I don’t find this to be any faster. Anyway, maybe Taiwan’s DSL/Cable connection isn’t as fast.

I have 4 minutes before my time is up. My birthday was good. We ended up going to a Chinese buffet. For a mere $22 American, I dined like a princess. Many of these huge buffets in Taipei, put East Buffet to shame. They are cheaper too!

Well, my sister and I are off to meet people at Shilin Nightmarket. Yesterday, we went to the famous Snake Alley. I love how that night market is called a “Tourist Night Market”. Basically, it just means the prices are jacked up.

My sister and I saw Landy at Ximending yesterday. I think it was the highlight of my sister’s trip. I will be adding pictures to my photogallery as soon as I return to the States.

No more comments

I’ve turned off comments for now since I don’t have internet access 24/7. I checked my e-mail yesterday and emptied out all the spam. Today I check, and I have over 1000 e-mails. 99% of them consists of comment spammers. I don’t know how to control them, so I’ve turned off the commenting system. If you want to comment about something, just do it the old fashioned way. E-mail me. It’s under the Girl section. I’ll respond, I promise!

My birthday is tomorrow. I feel ancient.

I’m typing this at a free internet place in an underground mall. How cool is that? )

Surviving the heat

I finally found an Internet cafe that isn’t full of smokers. My younger sister and I have been holding down the fort here in Taipei, Taiwan. My parents and older sister left on Monday. We didn’t do much since they’ve left. On Monday, we went to Taipei 101, the tallest building in the world (for now). There is a big mall so Jessica and I hung out at the huge bookstore, called Page One. It has the biggest collection of American/English books. I sat there for an hour and read Helen Fielding’s latest book, “Olivia Joules and the Overactive Imagination. I finished the book today at the Core Pacific City Mall’s book store, Eslite. It was an entertaining book, I highly recommend it as a good beach book for females.

Yesterday, my sister and I spent time with my mom’s friend and her children. She made all these plans about watching, “House of Flying Daggers” with her kids, who are much younger than I. I’d rather watch the movie with my sister. I feel weird hanging out with kids who are half my age (almost). Speaking of my age, I’ll be 22 in 8 days. Once again, I will be spending my birthday in a foreign country. I have like 3 friends here. It will be a very pathetic birthday. Oh well. I guess I’ll have my real birthday celebration once I’m back in the states.

Well, I bought a Chinese cd. I’m going to go home and listen to it. I think I’m turning into a fob. Oh well!

Just a quick update

I just thought I’d update my site while I’m here at this smoky internet/gaming cafe in Taipei. I survived a week in Hawaii with my crazy family. It was fun and I managed to get a tan even though we were busy with our chinese tour guide. )

Now I’ll be in Taiwan for the next month. I’m kind of scared of what will happen to me. I already have about 10 mosquito bites. There are huge roaches in the apartment. I can’t speak Mandarin or Taiwanese that well. My mom thinks my little sister and I are hopeless and she has begged all her friends to take care of us. Haha. Anyway, just wanted to say hi to my 3 readers. I’m still alive! )
