5. What are your plans for the weekend?
i’m probably going to celebrate chinese new year with my friends. i have to do some work. hopefully i’ll be able to relax as well. )

anyway, tomorrow is chinese new year, so everyone be excited! it’s the year of the ram! wooha.

happy midweek party!

yay it’s wednesday already. i like today because it marks the end of my night classes for the week. hurrah! i had international law today. we discussed the whole iraq situation. truthfully, i have not been following the news. in fact, i didn’t even watch gw’s state of the union address. ( i don’t mean to be an apathetic student, but i was doing my hw! i swear. there’s also too much applause in the whole thing. i can’t pay attention. anyway, my professor asked us who wanted to go to war. only 5 hands went up. he basically explained to us that saddam hussein is not trustworthy, and that he most likely does have all those mass destruction weapons hidden somewhere. even though it appears that this war is gw’s personal war against saddam, saddam does impose a threat to the rest of the world. my professor also informed us that tony blair, the prime minister of the uk, also supports this war against iraq. in fact, his speech about this situation was much better than gw’s; too bad i didn’t get to see it. basically, blair said that if the u.s. doesn’t go to war with iraq, the uk will be sure to. i also learned that the uk has a lot more troops than the u.s. later on, my professor explained to us how quick the war will be. the u.s. and the allied countries will enter iraq from turkey and kuwait. then they will tell the people in baghdad to leave, and then the only people left will be saddam and his generals. hopefully then, the generals will decide to surrender in order to save their lives. to me, it sounds too easy, but if it’s really possible to have a war without shooting guns and killing civilians, that would be great!

hmm what else is going on in my life. nothing really. i’ve been going to class. today in managing across cultures, we had a taiwanese panel. i was on it. and basically we just talked about our taiwanese culture. it was kind of difficult because most of us were raised in the u.s. so we couldn’t really relate to the taiwanese culture. we did talk about how our parents are very concerned with education. blahblah. then someone asked a question about the china and taiwan deal. i told them that my parents were against china. i also told them about how i went to china and talked to the youth there, and they explained to me why china decided to shoot some missiles near taiwan. they said that taiwan is china’s child, and it’s china’s job to discipline it. isn’t that absurd? why does china think it owns taiwan. mao zedong chased chiang kai shek out of china, so chiang kai shek established his own government in taiwan. and now like over 50 years later, china thinks they own taiwan? chiang kai shek was basically rejected from china, so why does china claim ownership of china? weirdness. maybe i don’t know all the facts. (which is quite possible!) also, someone asked us if we have any problems being called chinese. we all said that when people ask what our ethnicity is, we all answer taiwanese. i think i do that mainly to distinguish myself as not being from china, hence a communist. i guess that’s kind of harsh since most of the people from taiwan came from china many years ago, but china sucks. i went there 2 summers ago, and they are so crazy. they are so poor. i’m glad that they are slowly realizing that this communist regime is not working. it only took them 50 years to figure that part out! anyway, i think i am babbling too much now. i will stop because my roommate and i are going to attend our chinese new year party in a couple of minutes. free dumplings! wooha. )
